Battery You Can See Through

Researchers at Stanford University have made fully transparent batteries, the last missing component needed to make transparent displays and other electronic devices.

Stanford materials science professor Yi Cui, who led the work, says a tremendous amount of research goes into making batteries, pavilion dv4 battery, pavilion dv6 battery, store more energy for longer, but little attention has been paid to making them "more beautiful, and fancier."

Researchers have previously made transparent variations on other major classes of electronics, including transistors and the components used to control displays, but not yet batteries. "And if you can't make the battery transparent, you can't make the gadget transparent," says Cui.

Some battery, pavilion dv4 battery, pavilion dv6 battery, components are easier to make using transparent materials than others. The electrodes are the tricky part, says Cui. One way to make a transparent electrode is to make it very thin, on the order of about 100 nanometers thick. But a thin electrode typically can't store enough energy to be useful.

Another approach is to make the electrode in the form of a pattern that has features smaller than the naked eye can see. As long as there is enough total electrode material in the battery, this type of electrode can still store a significant amount of energy. Cui designed a mesh electrode where all the lines of the mesh are on the order of 50 micrometers, effectively invisible, and the squares inside the mesh contain no battery, pavilion dv4 battery, pavilion dv6 battery, materials.

Fabrication is also tricky, since the usual methods for making components at this resolution require harsh chemical processes that damage battery materials. The Stanford group instead used a relatively simple method to make the transparent mesh electrodes, which are held together inside a clear, squishy polymer called PDMS.

They start by using lithography to make a mold on a silicon wafer. Then they pour liquid PDMS over the mold, cure the polymer to solidify it, and peel it off the mold. The PDMS sheet is then engraved with a grid of narrow channels. Next they drip a solution of electrode materials onto the surface of the PDMS. Capillary action pulls the materials in until they have filled all the channels to create the mesh. The researchers used standard lithium-ion battery, pavilion dv7 battery, pavilion dv2000 battery, materials to make their electrodes.

To make the complete battery, they sandwich a clear gel electrolyte between the two electrodes, and put it all inside a protective plastic wrapping. The Stanford researchers created prototypes, and used them to power an LED whose light can be seen through the battery itself.

Cui says these batteries should, in theory, be able to store about half as much energy as an equivalent-sized opaque battery, pavilion dv7 battery, pavilion dv2000 battery, because there is a trade-off between energy density and transparency. They can lay down a thicker mesh of electrode materials to store more energy, but that means less light will get through.

So far, his lab's prototypes can store 20 watt-hours per liter, about as much energy as a nickel-cadmium battery, but Cui expects to improve this by an order of magnitude, in part by reducing the thickness of the polymer substrate, and by making the trenches that hold the electrode materials deeper. pavilion dv6000 battery , pavilion dv4000 battery

Another way to store more energy without sacrificing transparency would be to stack multiple cells on top of one another in such a way that the grid of the electrodes lined up, allowing light to pass through. So far, the group has made electrodes that are about an inch across, but Cui says they could be made much larger, and the material could simply be cut to the desired size.

5-year-old cuffed, incurred together with battery power about police officer

There isn't any query which cops in the usa possess among the most difficult, the majority of harmful work close to. However it is difficult to assume a case -- any kind of example -- the place where a policeman seems therefore endangered with a kid hardly after dark child grow older that she or he must intentionally restrain all of them.

Five-year-old Erina Davis, that went to the actual Rio Calaveras Primary associated with Stockton, includes a behavior issue. Based on their mom, Thelma Grey, he's already been clinically identified as having Interest Debt Hyperactivity Condition or even ADHD. Their conduct is actually unacceptable sometimes, as well as he's a few.

College authorities, so that they can alter Michael's conduct, desired him or her to satisfy using the school's officer, in an effort, an area press statement stated, in order to frighten him or her directly.

Just, whenever Erina and also the policeman, the Stockton, Calif., law enforcement lieutenant, fulfilled in a space within the college, the actual conference did not proceed nicely. Erina, the actual policeman stated within their statement, "he pressed my personal hands aside inside a playing baseball movement, pressed documents from the desk, as well as kicked me personally within the correct leg. inch

Once the young man would not relax, the actual official -- the law enforcement lieutenant -- zip-tied their fingers as well as ft as well as delivered him or her away to some close by psychiatric medical center at the back of the team vehicle, just about all without having phoning Michael's mother or even father. This will get even worse. Erina had been formally billed along with electric battery of the officer. The little one is actually 5 years of age.

The actual teen courtroom assess a minimum of had a few sanity within disregarding the situation, however exactly what training offers this particular communicated to some youthful, impressionable, psychologically clingy kid -- it's simpler with regard to culture in order to discipline him or her with regard to their difficulties compared to assist him or her deal with all of them and be the effective person in culture.

Teenager arrested on suspicion of hacking

The man, named locally as Ryan Cleary, 19, was arrested in Wickford, Essex. Police have not identified him.

Scotland Yard said the raid followed a series of distributed denial of service attacks.

It comes days after hackers from a group called Lulz Security (LulzSec) attacked a number of websites both in Britain and the United States.

Scotland Yard would not say if Tuesday's raid was connected to LulzSec but said it had been a "pre-planned, intelligence-led" operation.

Computer examined

However, BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said the Metropolitan Police's e-crimes unit had confirmed the raid was linked to the recent intrusion attacks on the websites of the CIA and Britain's Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca).

It says the teenager's computer was being examined for data linked to Sony, which recently came under cyber attack.

Mr Cleary was arrested under the Computer Misuse Act and Fraud Act and is being questioned at a central London police station.

Earlier a Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The arrest follows an investigation into network intrusions and distributed denial of service attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group.

"Searches at a residential address in Wickford, Essex, following the arrest last night, have led to the examination of a significant amount of material. These forensic examinations remain ongoing."

Mr Cleary's mother spoke to BBC Essex and confirmed her son had been arrested at 0330 BST on Tuesday.

She said he had been obsessed with computers since he was 12 and added: "Computers were his world."

An FBI spokesman said it had no comment "at this time".

When Lulz Security, or LulzSec, first appeared in May, the group portrayed itself as a light-hearted organisation, bent on creating online fun and Lulz (laughs).

But LulzSec is said to have been planning to establish itself as a rival to Anonymous, the hacking group embroiled in the WikiLeaks fallout.

LulzSec initially targeted US broadcasters PBS and Fox and gaming firms.

But the Twitter page @LulzSec then declared its intention to break into government websites and leak confidential documents.

LulzSec is also suspected of hacking into CIA, Sony and NHS websites.

Gary McKinnon, an unemployed computer programmer who allegedly hacked into Pentagon and Nasa computers, has been fighting extradition to the US since 2002.

HP Laptop Decoder Ring

HP, in particular, has a huge variety of notebooks. On one end is a cadre of affordably-priced Pavilion machines and at another are high-end multimedia laptops that rival Apple’s sleekest systems. Then you have a whole separate line of laptops for business users. To guide you through HP’s catalog, here’s a summary of each lineup.

HP’s line of 10.1-inch netbooks include two models: the Mini 110 and the Mini 210 (pictured). The first number in the naming convention refers to the generation of the line, and the last two numbers reference the netbooks’ size. Both machines offer an Intel Atom N455 processor and Intel GMA 3150 graphics, but the Mini includes a 3-cell battery. The newer 210 packs a 6-cell option.

Don’t expect many models here. The all-over jet black HP G series features two laptops built for everyday computing tasks like surfing the web, social networking, and watching online video. The G62m houses Intel Celeron processors, but the G62x, gets into gear with a modern Core i3 370M CPU.

The HP Pavilion line is easily the manufacturer’s largest notebook family. It starts at the ultraportable 11-inch Pavilion dm1z (pictured) and climbs all the way to 17-inch quad-core rigs. In between, about a dozen sharp-looking machines are divided into the DM, G, and DV series, and come in a wide variety of chassis designs. The DM series includes HP’s ultraportables; the G series includes value-priced 14-, 15-, and 17-inch notebooks; and the DV series (15- and 17-inch) is all about multimedia and entertainment, with features like premium sound and discrete graphics.

These four notebooks are HP’s multimedia powerhouses. Available in 14- and 17.3-inch configurations, HP Envy laptops provide a strong mix of style and entertainment. For example, each notebook is designed with a minimalist flare and includes Beats audio sound. Depending on the system, an Envy can pack heavy-hitting A/V perks. The list includes ATI discrete graphics for video, a set of Beats headphones, or a 3D display (HP Envy 17 only).

The HP Essential family is marketed toward small and medium-sized businesses who don’t need a lot of computing power. Many of the notebooks contain bargain-priced CPUs like the Intel Pentium T4500 or the AMD PhenomII.

The Essential is comprised of two notebooks: the 3105m is 11.6-inches and includes a modern AMD E-350 processor, and the 600 series offers several 15.6-inch machines that can house Intel Celeron, Core 2 Duo, or Pentium processors or equally low-end AMD chip selections as well.

There’s just one machine in this family: the TouchSmart tm2t, a 12.1 inch tablet with a convertible display and an emphasis on entertainment with specs like HDMI, Dolby digital sound, and Altec Lansing speakers.

The HP ProBook lineup offers something for every mobile professional – from roaming salespeople and real estate agents who need the lightweight mobility of the 5-pound 4420s and 4520s to engineers and designers that require big displays and bigger performance, as found in the 17-inch 4720s, which uses an ATI Radeon HD graphics card. There’s even TPM software for encrypting important files and fingerprint readers to lock down notebooks in case the device lands in the wrong hands.

Screen Size: In the Pavilion line, the single number corresponds to the second digit of the screen size. The dm1z, for instance, is 11.1 inches. In some instance, the number represents the display’s estimated size. The dv5t has a 14.5-inch display, so the 5 represents 15 inches, instead.

Elitebooks and ProBooks have more numbers in the product name, so it is the second number that refers to the screen size. For instance, the Elitebook 8440w and 8460p both contain 14-inch displays. Exceptions to the rule are the Elitebook 2540p and 2740p, both 12.1 inches. For those systems, it is the first digit that corresponds to the second digit of the display size.
